Step Forward
I was browsing through the news reports and found something I felt encouraging. The daughter of the author Ernest Hemingway who wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls,The Sun Also Rises, To Have and Have Not has decided to speak up about her families mental illness. They suffer from severe depression. It is a really well written piece about the youngest daughter Mariel Hemingway, and what it has been like for her to live in a family with depression. I am adding the link to this post so you can all take a look.
Part of me wonders. Will people take it seriously? It was brave for her to come forward and be so open. I some times wonder why people hush up those who do have depression. There isn't much known about it. We do know that manny great artists, writers, even politicians have been reported having it. That it is a chemical problem in the brain. It can also be circumstantial. It can be genetic. This news article about depression I feel is a good step forward in being open about it. Instead of a skulking shadow that haunts some of our family members or people we care about this article helps open a dialogue.
